I read very little during the brain fog of pregnancy and even less during the still foggier fog of nursing. Remains of the Day was GREAT for pulling me back into reading. I picked this one up next and wasn't quite prepared. It's not nearly as quick paced (or as short). If I'd read it at another time I probably would have loved it- in fact it reminds me of some old favorites of mine (Herta Muller, Halldor Laxness, Ivo Andric). In my current state it took me three months to read.
